Abductor Tendon Repair

The hip abductor muscles, primarily the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, can suffer partial or complete tears. A partial tear may cause chronic pain in the region, resembling trochanteric bursitis symptoms. A complete tear can result in significant gait difficulties, with a positive Trendelenburg sign.

In cases of severe pain that does not respond to conservative treatment or in cases of complete tears, abductor tendon repair is recommended. This involves reattaching the tendons to the greater trochanter using specialized sutures that anchor into the bone and secure the muscle back onto the femur.
