"When I learned about my hips' condition, I couldn’t accept it. I couldn’t control my legs, felt disabled, and believed that even after surgery I would live with limitations and pain. My condition was not in an advanced stage.

Then I found out about the fast-track total hip replacement. I asked my doctor if what I read was true, and he confirmed it. A quick recovery and, most importantly, after being fully recovered, I would return to my normal life (walking, running, dancing, exercising, squatting) with no restrictions. "I visited Dr. Tzaveas’s office in October 2012, suffering from pain in my right hip and difficulty walking. My condition was congenital, and over the years (I was 64 at the time), especially in the last 8 years, wear and tear had occurred on the femoral head, resulting in a leg length discrepancy and strain on the left side. "A snowboarding fall resulted in a labral tear in my hip. After that, I constantly felt a sharp pinch and stabbing pain in my hip, discomfort every time I sat deeply, and difficulty putting on my shoes, tying my laces, or cutting my toenails. Additionally, any attempt at sports ended with inflammation and pain lasting several days, as well as pain when standing.

I chose Dr. Tzaveas based on my research and his published articles. The surgery itself was remarkably painless. Recovery required six weeks with crutches and physiotherapy. By 12 weeks, I returned to my work and began light athletic activity. A year and a half after the hip arthroscopy, I was able to perform deadlifts, squats, and running without any discomfort. I resumed practicing Kyokushin martial arts and returned to snowboarding and kitesurfing.

"I am extremely grateful to Dr. Tzaveas not only for his skill as a surgeon but also for his overall approach to patient care. Here is my story. I am a Greek-Canadian living in Toronto. I played American football for many years, including during university, after which I became a chiropractor and continued living an active lifestyle by practicing Jiu Jitsu and wrestling. Like many athletes, I’ve had and still have some musculoskeletal issues, one of which is a torn labrum in the hip and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI).

I was experiencing pain in the back of my hip, in the gluteal area, with difficulty walking and standing for extended periods. I was in the Canadian healthcare system, and it took about 10 months just to see a surgeon, after which I was placed on a two-year waiting list for surgery. At that point, I started looking for other options because the pain was so intense that it was significantly affecting my quality of life. I could no longer participate in sports, let alone work with any kind of comfort.
