Removal of Loose Bodies

The hip joint may contain loose bodies that cause joint dysfunction. Their presence between the two articular surfaces can lead not only to chronic pain but also to long-term joint deterioration.

These loose bodies may originate from the body itself (e.g., synovial chondromatosis of the hip) or result from a severe joint injury (such as hip dislocation). In rare cases, they may enter the joint from an external source (e.g., war injuries with shrapnel or bullet fragments).

In the past, their removal required an extensive open surgical procedure. However, today, this procedure is performed arthroscopically using specialized instruments. As a result, the loose bodies can be removed through very small incisions using specialized tools.
